Meanwhile
Not-for-profit, Makespace Oxford, transform empty and underused buildings into affordable, community-driven spaces. Through these spaces, they aim to foster a diverse, mutually-supportive network that facilitates connection, skill sharing and collaboration.
In 2022 I began the portrait series, Meanwhile, to shine a light on the residents who occupy these temporary spaces. The residents captured span many different sectors, but are united by a commitment to positive cultural, social or environmental impact. They help to build more inclusive and resilient local communities and stronger local economies.
While the use of these spaces may be temporary, the vision is long-term: The work is a catalyst to develop towns and cities that are community owned, people-centred and climate safe - now, and for future generations. Find out more about Makespace Oxford here.
